New from Garrett Turbochargers – the GTX5533R turbocharger. This turbo has a gen-II forged CNC machined compressor wheel and comes in inducer diameters between 85-98mm. See more details below.
Official Release:
Making big power requires a big turbo. If this is you, Garrett is proud to announce the upcoming release of the GTX5533R large frame turbocharger. The GTX5533R brings advanced GTX compressor wheel technology into a large frame turbo capable of producing from 1,750 to 2,450 horsepower.
The large frame GTX5533R is designed for race classes with specific compressor inlet diameter rules and for consumers looking to make extreme horsepower. The GTX5533R is class legal in inlet restricted drag racing classes like NHRA Pro Mod, NMCA Drag Radial, and PDRA Pro Boost.
The GTX 5533R turbo features Garrett’s Gen 2 forged CNC machined compressor wheel. Starting with a high strength near net shape forged blank, Garrett CNC machines the CFD optimized blade profiles to make the thinnest blades possible without sacrificing strength. This results in the strongest, lowest inertia, fastest spooling and most aerodynamically efficient compressor wheels in the market.
The Gen 2 compressor wheels are available with 85mm, 88mm, 91mm, 94mm and 98mm inducer diameters to help you match your compressor to your desired power output.
The improved Gen 2 compressor wheel lives in a revised high flow compressor housing with a fully machined inlet, V-band outlet, integrated speed sensor and pressure signal ports. The integrated speed sensor port accepts Garrett’s speed sensor kit. (Sold separately)
The compressor housing features an improved ported shroud design for surge resistance. The ported shroud allows air to bypass the compressor wheel when the engine’s flow rate is lower that what the compressor wants to flow, eliminating surge at these times.
The compressor housing also has a new sleeker profile and also features a Lightweight billet aluminum backplate which is 49% lighter than the previous steel version. This saves 4 pounds!
The GTX5533R uses Garrett’s patented dual ball bearing center section. The dual ball bearings reduce friction resulting in much faster spool. They also require less oil than traditional sleeve bearings, which can help an engine maintain oil pressure and last longer.
The dual ball bearings are self-contained in a cartridge that floats in a bath of cooling and lubricating oil. The floating cartridge helps damp out harmful shaft motion and harmonics giving a longer more trouble free service life.
To further tune the GTX5533R’s response and power output there are several different turbine housing options with different area ratios so an engine builder can balance flow with response time.
These features make the GTX5533R today’s premier choice for high power applications.
