From Farm To Fuel Tank: Looking At The Origins Of Ignite Racing Fuel

When you hear the term “farm to table” you probably think about high-quality, fresh meals. Well, Ignite Racing Fuels doesn’t sell produce or protein, but the company was started, and is run by, a real-life farmer. You might be asking yourself, “Why would a farmer run a race fuel company?” The answer is simple — Ignite’s owner, Jay Berry, raises corn. Ethanol is made from corn. See where we’re going here?

In the interest of maintaining quality control over every step of the process, Berry does it all himself (practically; he does have some help). From growing the corn, to harvesting it, milling it, and then refining and distilling the ethanol on site, Berry does it all. In fact, the Ignite Racing Fuel production plant is across the road (literally) from the corn fields, providing a nice, short commute for the grain trucks.

While the growing popularity of E85 has really put the spotlight on ethanol as a race fuel, Ignite has been producing ethanol-based racing fuels since the early days. We say “ethanol-based” instead of E85, because the Ignite line of fuels is more than E85. Yes, they have Ignite Orange E85 that is consistently 85-percent ethanol, but then there is also Ignite Red 114 that is 90-percent ethanol aimed at 500-plus horsepower combinations that can take advantage of the high octane and cooling effect.

Finally, Ignite offers the purest ethanol fuel available without a liquor license; Ignite Yellow E98, which is 98-percent ethanol with only the legally-required (so as to not be consumable by humans) 2 percent of denaturant. If you watch the video above, you’ll see that there is no question as to where your Ignite fuel came from; it’s a big ol’ corn field in Marion, Indiana with the “Berry Farms” sign out front, and an ethanol production plant on it.
