Honda Performance Development, the performance arm of the OEM powerhouse, has just unleashed an aftermarket supercharger option for the Honda CR-Z. Proving efficiency doesn’t have to be boring, the horsepower junkies at HPD bumped the output of the fuel-sipping, 1.4-liter engine from an anemic, 130 horsepower to a respectable 197 horsepower output.
“With HPD street performance accessories, including the new supercharger kit, the CR-Z will surprise everyone again with even higher levels of performance directly inspired by our on-track racing efforts,” says Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development.
Available for the 2013 and 2014 CR-Z, the HPD supercharger kit includes a high-efficiency centrifugal supercharger, an air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, an ECU calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations with 91 octane fuel and the HPD air filter system. The kit retails for a Honda-suggested $5,495 plus dealer installation costs.
While wrench-wielding owners are more than likely capable of installing the kit at home, it must be installed by a Honda dealership in order to keep the car’s 5-year/60,000 mile warranty in effect. HPD also offers performance components that improve the CR-Z’s acceleration, turning and stopping such as limited slip differentials, wheel and tire packages, springs, shocks and 300mm big brake kits.
HPD hints that development is continuing and they have much more planned for the HPD Supercharged CR-Z in the future.
