Upgrading Your Duramax Turbocharger Just Got Easier

DuramaxPedestal_Lead

Since the Duramax first made its way into a GM truck, it has used a rather unique mounting system. This is the case for many OEM applications. They aren’t worried about trying to upgrade a turbocharger to get more horsepower. They are simply worried about packaging, cost and being about to achieve their specs.

So, when you end up buying a truck and decide to start upgrading parts, sometimes you may find that it isn’t as simple as you might think. Both the Power Stroke and Duramax V-8 configurations mean there are up pipes that feed the exhaust into the turbocharger. The up pipes are not standard and they never seem to be mounted the same way as a factory turbocharger is.

This means that aftermarket companies have to come up with new and creative ways to adapt their performance parts to these new engines/applications. For the Duramax, Turbonetics has created an all stainless steel turbocharger pedestal that allows any T4 turbocharger to be mounted in the valley.

According to their release, these are precision machined to ensure that they fit correctly straight out of the box and no riser plates are needed.

Taking innovation one step further, they have, also, cast in the passages to mount a 38mm external wastegate! How much easier can it get? No longer do you need to figure out where to mount one, cut all of the holes and run all of the tubing. Now you can simply bolt a 38mm wastegate to the pedestal and run the discharge pipe. Don’t worry, if you don’t want to run the wastegate, they do provide a block off flange so you don’t have to buy anything extra.
