PRI 2013: Dailey Engineering Sees More Integrated Pump/Pan Systems

Dailey Engineering, best known for custom dry-sump oil pump, is seeing a shift in the market to integrated oil pans.

“About half of our customers are now asking about a complete system,” says company founder Bill Dailey. “We’re focusing more of our R&D efforts into designing pans fully integrated with the proper pump.”

Dailey Engineering’s forte has been its standard and SP series of dry-sump pumps that are based on a 2-lobe, straight-rotor Roots-style design for the scavenge sections. Bronze spur gears are used for the pressure section, and an integrated air/oil separator is available.

In addition to the stand-alone pumps that work with conventional dry-sump pans and AN hoses, Dailey can integrate the pump to a custom billet pan to fit any engine block. The pans are machined from billet 6061 T6 aluminum. All scavenge lines are machined directly into the pan. Some pans are designed to retain the factory A/C system, and Dailey can design a pan deep enough to clear long-arm crankshafts on popular aftermarket blocks or even custom billet blocks.

Key to offering such a wide variety of systems is Dailey’s extensive design archives that keep the dimensions of every custom application on file for reference.

“We more than 800 unique configurations of the pumps alone,” says Dailey. “And there are CAD drawings for every one.”
