Video: Pump Gas And A Carburetor? Check Out Driven’s Carb Defender!

driven1The folks over at Driven Racing Oil have been on the case to protect your classic musclecar for a while now, first introducing their zinc-added oil products, and now, with this new release, Carb Defender. And of course you’re curious what Carb Defender can do for you, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this post, right?

Well, much like the federal government regulations that pushed oil manufacturers to remove the zinc from their products to help with emissions, fuel manufacturers have been pushed into the same type of situation. Back in the old days, gasoline was just that – gasoline refined from crude oil. But in today’s “green” world, in most states gasoline is mixed to a 90-10 ratio with renewable corn-based ethanol to help lower emissions.

driven2So now you’re curious as to what Carb Defender does to protect your carburetor from the current fuel formulations – and we’ve got the answer. See, unlike gasoline, ethanol is hygroscopic, which means that it basically sucks moisture out of the air and into your fuel system.

That’s a bad thing, since it can subsequently decimate the seals and surfaces within your carburetor with the water-induced corrosion. Driven’s Carb Defender has a unique set of additives that combat the corrosive effects of the ethanol, in addition to conditioning the seals and helping to restore lost power.

Corrosion can cause hard starts, poor fuel economy, and reduced performance, so check out Carb Defender and give it a try. It won’t damage any emissions parts or sensors on your car either, which means it’s safe for those of you who live in states where inspections are required.

Driven recommends using one bottle per 25 gallons of fuel to adequately treat the harmful effects of ethanol in your dino-juice. The added benefit of stabilizing the fuel for winter storage comes standard – check out the video for another tip from Driven and Power Automedia’s Paul Huizenga.
