RaceTec pistons, part of the Racing and Performance Group (home to other brands such as SCAT Enterprises, Vortech, Paxton, and AFR, among others), has been making high-performance racing pistons since 2007. In that time, its lineup of pistons has expanded in both applications as well as piston models, to the point where a guide to its models is needed.
The first, and halo lineup, bear the name of the brand itself: the RaceTec line of pistons. All the pistons in the RaceTec line are made from either billet or forged 2618 aluminum alloy. This is the alloy of choice for seriously high-power applications. It’s not just stronger, but stronger at higher temperatures, making it ideal for racing applications
Besides the premium alloy, the RaceTec lineup of pistons offers some of the more advanced options not seen on standard pistons, like gas ports, 3D undercrown milling, asymmetrical valve reliefs, and more. All of the features are designed in advanced CAD software and machined on the latest CNC-controlled machines on the market.
RaceTec uses the lastest, state-of-the-art technology in order to keep the design tolerances to a minimum.
The next line of pistons the brand manufacturers is the AutoTec series. These are made primarily from forged 4032 aluminum, with a few 2618 alloy designs mixed in. The AutoTec line of pistons is aimed at affordability for sportsman racers and street enthusiasts. The designs are still manufactured to the same high tolerances, but with fewer custom features and a more streamlined number of options, making them more affordable to produce.
The streamlining of piston designs has allowed the brand to start a shelf-stocking piston program, ensuring that the most common designs are available with a minimum of delay, while still offering some customization options, such as bore size, compression height, and ring groove options. RaceTec aims to have a customized shelf stock piston in the mail within five days of ordering.
Whether you’re looking for an off-the-shelf, slightly modified off-the-shelf, or completely custom piston design, RaceTec has something in its lineup to cover you.
