It has become almost too easy for enthusiasts to make astronomical amounts of horsepower, and that means using the right parts is more important than ever if you want an engine to live. There are countless examples of OEM parts like the GM LS crank supporting big power, but these parts have their limits. Howards Cams Billet Reaper LS crankshaft is a great way to add more reliability to your high-powered LS engine.
If you want to make big horsepower, especially in a boosted application, you need to invest in good parts. The Billet Reaper LS crankshaft from Howards Cams was designed from the start to be a high-strength piece that could deal with large volumes of boosted abuse. When the team at Howards began the design process, they wanted to create a center counted weighted crankshaft that was high-quality, so they used E4230 billet material with the Billet Reaper LS crankshaft. This gives the Billet Reaper LS crankshaft plenty of strength, plus it increases the life of the main bearings.
The Billet Reaper LS crankshaft is capable of handling over 2,000 horsepower. It’s available in 3.622″, 4.000″, and 4.125″ strokes and it requires a 6.125″ minimum connecting rod length. You can purchase the Billet Reaper LS crankshaft with your choice of a 24 or 58 tooth reluctor wheel.
Kirk Peters from Howards Cams explains the benefits this crankshaft provides to those who are looking to build a max-effort boosted LS engine.
“This crankshaft is CNC machined to exact tolerances, and has computer designed counterweights to reduce bearing loads, this also provides improved balancing. The crank is nitride-hardened for superior wear resistance and strength, plus it has large fillet radii on the bearing journals. We also added lightening holes in the rod journals to help reduce rotating mass. The crank is shoot peened, we also have the main and rod bearing surfaces micro-polished,” Peters says.
