Quick Hit: ATI’s Harmonic Damper For 2011+ Power Stroke Engines

For nearly six decades, ATI Racing has been one of the leading companies to go to for performance drivetrain parts. ATI Racing covers multiple aspects, with offerings for input shafts, clutch packs, torque converters, and so much more.

Though the company traces its roots to transmissions (its acronym stands for Automatic Transmissions, Inc., after all) and gasoline applications, ATI Racing has made great strides in the diesel market as well, and part of that is one of its latest products: a Super Damper harmonic damper for 2011 and newer 6.7-liter Power Stroke engines (PN 918892).

ATI’s Super Damper is tuned in-house to fit 2011-16 Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke motors, and is even rebuildable and tunable.

We talked with ATI’s Rick Hults to get a better sense of what this damper will do for owners of these trucks. “We want to see the damper used in all types of Super Duty applications,” he said. “This includes racing, daily driving, and towing purposes.”

Compared to the stock harmonic damper, the ATI unit offers some distinct advantages. “From the factory, the damper is made up of two pieces with a single elastomer strip,” explained Hults. “It can separate easily, or rotate and lose timing marks, or totally come apart from age and multiple cycles.”

“Our damper is an improvement over that for several reasons,” continued Hults. “It’s constructed with different-sized elastomer o-rings on a single inertia mass captured between the inner and outer shells, making it essentially two dampers in one. Also, it’s SFI-approved, and is even rebuildable and tunable.”

Installing ATI’s Super Damper will require a special part also made by ATI: the T-40 Plus torx bit (PN 918897). To get more information on ATI Racing and other diesel products, check out the company’s website and Facebook page.

Installers will want to get this T-40 Plus Torx bit from ATI, which will allow them to securely bolt down the damper to the crankshaft hub.
