Cometic Releases Head Gaskets for BBC, Duramax, and EcoTec3

Cometic Releases Head Gaskets for BBC, Duramax, and EcoTec3

Building a stout GM engine requires attention to detail, especially ensuring a reliable seal between the cylinder head and block under pressure. Cometic Gaskets, a reputable name in the performance sealing market, recently broadened its products for popular Chevrolet and GM platforms this spring. They are releasing new head gasket solutions for classic big-blocks, workhorse Duramax diesel, and modern EcoTec3 V6s.

Recognizing the continued passion for traditional big-block Chevy V8s, Cometic introduced a new MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) head gasket for these engines. This particular gasket features a .040-inch thickness and suits large 4.680-inch round bores often found in high-performance builds.

Cometic identifies applications ranging from modified Camaros and Corvettes to classic Chevelles, Novas, Impalas, and even big-block-powered heavy-duty truck projects.

Addressing the robust diesel truck market, Cometic now offers a complete top-end gasket kit specifically for the popular GM LMM and LLY Duramax engines, commonly found in 2006-2010 Silverado and Sierra HD trucks. The highlight of this kit includes Cometic’s MLX (Multi-Layer Steel with Stopper) head gaskets, which are known for handling high cylinder pressures. These specific Duramax gaskets measure .047 inches thick with a 4.130-inch bore.

Cometic also turned its attention to modern GM truck and SUV powerplants, releasing MLX head gaskets for the LV1 and LV3 EcoTec3 4.3-liter V6 engines. These engines power numerous 2014-and-newer Silverado and Sierra 1500 pickups, along with 2015-and-newer Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon SUVs.

Cometic provides these .054-inch thick gaskets for the 4.000-inch bore V6, requiring builders to order specific left-hand and right-hand side gaskets for proper fitment. Across these diverse applications, Cometic utilizes its advanced multi-layer steel gasket technology.

Both MLS and MLX designs aim to provide superior sealing integrity compared to standard gaskets, reliably handling the extreme temperatures, pressures, and potential boost found in performance or heavy-duty operating conditions. These new head gasket offerings from Cometic are available now through authorized dealers.

If you’re an engine builder who work on vintage American muscle, tune modern diesel workhorses, or maintain late-model V6 trucks, Cometic’s latest releases provide durable, precision-engineered sealing solutions that are designed to benefit popular Chevrolet and GM engine builds.
