EFI systems need a base map created before they can bring an engine to life. A base map can be easily generated with few steps in a setup wizard, or it can be created by a tuner. In this video, Cameron Lohrmann from FuelTech shows us how to build a base map using the FuelTech ECU software.
Base map generation sounds like a very intimidating task, however, modern ECU’s like the ones offered by FuelTech make the process much easier. The software has checkboxes and prompts that will guide you through the steps needed to make a base map from scratch. If you have all the information for each step the process really isn’t bad at all.
The FuelTech ECU base map generation process has you input all the vital information into each screen as you build a base map for your engine. You’ll need to know all the basic engine information to start with before you move on to things like RPM signal, ignition system, fuel system, and throttle configurations. The base map generation process will also have the user input the characteristics of the engine, such as compression and camshaft profile.
Another great tool the base map generation process gives you is a wiring harness diagram that will make wiring the car much easier. During the last portion of the base map generation procedure, you can address each of the inputs and outputs for the ECU. After you’re done configuring all the sensors you can test them through the software.
If you’re new to FuelTech EFI this video is a great tool to not only learn how to generate a base map, but also see where many important functions can be accessed. You can also see each step Cameron performs right here on the FuelTech website.
