Hamilton Cams: Making More And Efficient Power

Camshafts

The experts at Hamilton Cams have created an FAQ for selecting the correct camshaft. Whether you’re sled pulling on the weekends, drag racing over the summer, or towing 20,000 pounds across the country, Hamilton Cams has or can create the perfect camshaft for you. 5.9/6.7-liter Cummins, 6.6-liter Duramax, 6.0/6.4/6.7 and 7.3-liter Power Stroke engines are all available and custom grinds are available per request.

If you’re looking to get more bang for your buck, at Hamilton Cams, you can purchase a Street and Towing Camshaft kit. The camshaft kits for the Cummins-powered trucks utilize new lifters, heavy-duty pushrods, stiffer valve springs, and tool steel valve locks and retainers.

With the new lifters, you’re extending cam lobe life with the low zinc oils of today and they are effective up to 5,000 RPM. The heavy-duty pushrods can handle higher RPM’s, stiffer spring pressure, and increased cylinder pressure and the valve springs, with OEM-sized valves, can handle up to 4,500 RPMs. With this towing kit, you’re being offered more bottom end torque and a quicker spool-up of the turbocharger resulting in an easier driving experience.

Valve Springs And Retainers

When a diesel engine turns high RPMs, run an aggressive camshaft, or see high boost pressure, you’re exposing your valvetrain components to issues and even failure including valve float and reversion. Hamilton Cams valve springs and retainers are capable of handling much more extreme scenarios which sequences into a more reliable engine. These products again are available for the Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke engines.

Not only does Hamilton cover the parts that go inside of the cylinder head, but they also customize their own Stage 1 and Stage 2 Cummins cylinder heads and engine blocks. Their cylinder heads feature a high-velocity intake port that helps reduce turbocharger lag and lower exhaust gas temperatures. The castings of the heads have a thicker deck to reduce the warpage from heat and less chance of cracking.
A cylinder head from Hamilton can be factory specification, or modified to run fire rings or o-rings. The fire or o-ringed heads come equipped with beehive springs, valves, and valve seats, locks, and retainers. The difference between the two heads is intake valve size—the Stage 1 heads have 1.75-inch diameter intake valves and the Stage 2s have 1.850-inch valves to generate higher airflow.
