PRI 2024: Edelbrock’s Hot New Heads for Gen 3 HEMI, LS, BBC and Olds

The Dodge Gen-III HEMI market is one of the hottest segments of the automotive aftermarket, and it’s about to get even hotter. Edelbrock, which made its first set of aftermarket heads in 1945, introduced two new sets of HEMI cylinder heads at the recent Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis.

And that’s not all. This legendary company also treated fans of the GM LS, big-block Chevy, and Oldsmobile 350/403 engines to an early Christmas present.

The Victor CNC Gen-III HEMI heads will be sold bare and are designed to accept 2.250-inch intake and 1.650-inch exhaust valves.

Jamie Wagner, Edelbrock’s product manager for cylinder heads, crate engines, and Power Packs, says the company is finally releasing the CNC version of its Victor Gen-III HEMI castings as a bare head. There is an as-cast Performer RPM head coming that is more street-oriented.

The Victor CNC head was introduced earlier in 2024, but he said it is finally going into production in early ’25. Wagner said there is a lot of interest already in the Victor head.

The Victor heads feature 72cc combustion chambers and 225cc runners and are designed to accept 2.250-inch and 1.650-inch intake and exhaust valves.

The big improvement for the Performer RPM HEMI head (PN/61135) is it comes with an intake port raised 0.125-inch over stock.

“That gives you a much better line of sight on the port, and the flow is very, very good on these,” says Wagner. “That raises the spring pocket an eighth of an inch also, so it has a longer valve than stock.”

The runner size on the Performer RPM Gen-III HEMI head is 215cc with 73cc chambers. Intake valves measure 2.165-inch, and the exhausts 1.650.

Still, all OE valvetrain parts will bolt up to the RPM head, as will the factory intake and exhaust manifolds. Runner size is 215cc with 73cc chambers. Intake valves measure 2.165-inch, and the exhausts 1.650.

For the ever-growing LS market, Edelbrock will have a revised version of the old RHS LS3 heads, with LS1 and LS7 examples to follow. These will now be branded under the Edelbrock E-Street line. They feature 260cc ports and 96cc chambers, with 2.165-1.590-inch exhaust valves.

What makes the aluminum alloy E-Street for GM LS3 (PN/77621) different, however, is that this version comes with Inconel exhaust valves instead of standard stainless steel to cope with elevated exhaust temperatures in high-boost or nitrous applications (not to mention marine uses).

The port volume is 260cc, the chambers are 96cc, and the valves are 2.165- and 1.590-inches (intake and exhaust). This will be released as-cast, though there will be an LS7 version that is fully CNC’d. In fact, Wagner said, there will be seven versions of the LS7 head eventually.

If your tastes run towards traditional big-block Chevrolet engines with lots of cubic inches, there is a new 12-degree Big Victor head developed with legendary racer and engine builder Pat Musi of Pat Musi Racing Engines in Mooresville, North Carolina. It is fully CNC’d with large raised ports (498cc) and is ideal for drag combinations up to 632 cubic inches. Combustion chambers are 82cc.

This is the Big Victor 12-degree head developed with legendary engine builder and racer Pat Musi. The heads are fully CNC’d.

Edelbrock has also completed development on its Victor DR17 head, which has 17-degree valve angles and a conventional port layout. It is fully CNC machined and will be available with either 93 or 120cc chambers. Both versions feature raised intake and exhaust ports. The 120cc version will be used on an Edelbrock/Musi 632 crate engine for drag racing with pump-gas-friendly flattop pistons.

The Victor DR17 head is for the big-block Chevy and has 17-degree valve angles. Both intake and exhaust ports are raised and two versions are available: One with a 93 cc chamber and the other with a 120 degree chamber.

Oldsmobile fans will be thrilled to hear Edelbrock has a new head for the so-called small-block engines, the 350 and 403. The new aluminum head comes with 2.07- and 1.68-inch intake and exhaust valves, respectively, and will make well over 400 horsepower on a mild 350 with 9.25:1 compression, per Edelbrock’s Mike Remmel. If you want to take it a step further, there is plenty of meat in the roof of the intake port, so it can be raised for a custom or different type of intake manifold.

The new Olds head from Edelbrock is designed for that family's small-block series—307, 350 and 403. Note the scallop CNC'd into the head to make room for mechanical fuel pumps. This will be a huge deal for fans of this engine.

Also of note is that the head has a scallop in the front, which leaves room to use a mechanical fuel pump. The lack of this scallop previously deterred many people from changing to aluminum heads on the 350 and 403.

Remmel recommends one of two Edelbrock intakes for these heads: the Performer RPM (PN/7111) or the Victor (PN/2812) for something a bit wilder. He says the heads were in development for four years, but the result is worth the wait. Runner size was scienced, so it was not too much for the smaller displacement engines. Combustion chamber size was also critical to be compatible with street engines.

“It’s a game changer for the Oldsmobile community for sure,” says Remme, who adds there will be two versions of the head available, one for flat-tappet cams (up to 0.575-inch lift) and one for roller cams with a heavier spring package (up to 0.600-lift)

The Edelbrock heads for the small-block Olds will be available in as-cast configuration at the start of production, but Remmel hopes CNC versions will become available before too long, too.
