“I’m always amused when guys buy a cheap timing cover and can’t figure out why their engine leaks oil,” said Milodon’s owner Steve Morrison.
Most of the time in the automotive aftermarket, you get what you pay for. As far as Milodon’s timing covers go, Morrison was proud to show us the company’s full line of covers.
“The aluminum timing covers are CNC machined,” he explained. “This makes a precise fit and helps to prevent a poor seal or cam-stop flex. These fit under most short-style water pumps and work with double roller or stock timing chains.”
“We also offer a timing cover with a big-block Chevy crank snout for blown applications, where extra crank nose strength is required to support the blower drive, Morrison added.
When it comes to the steel timing covers, Milodon’s cover design features a steel recess that is precisely formed to hold the seal in place. “These are the type used by professional builders like Reher & Morrison, Scott Shafiroff, and Steve Schmidt,” Morrison said.
“We also offer several steel timing covers with reinforced cam thrust,” he stated. “The reinforced cam thrust covers features a wear plate welded into place which provides a positive cam stop as well as stiffens the cover to stand up to severe loads. Each cover is checked for proper placement of seal and dowel pins to avoid leaks.”
