Most racing enthusiasts are very familiar with Luntati’s H-beam style connecting rods. We were expecting to see the next iteration of these rods when we made the trip to Indianapolis for the PRI trade show. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised to have Lunati’s Will Vance show us a completely new line of hybrid connecting rods for performance engine builders.
According to Vance, the new Lunati X-beam connecting rods are a mix of the best parts of an I-beam rod with the best parts of the H-beam connecting rod – and make it affordable. “Lunati has always been about making really big power, and making it for everybody,” Vance said.
Lunati rolled out two new versions of the X-beam rods for the show: a lightweight and a “boosted” version.
According to Vance, the lightweight version is good for naturally aspirated engines up to 850 horsepower. The boosted version will take anything you can throw at it, “and then some,” Vance declared. “We’ve never broken one on the dyno, so we don’t know how much it really can take.”
The new release is currently targeting the LS/LT engine platforms but the line will soon expand to all engine platforms. “We want everyone to be able to taste this horsepower,” Vance added.
Vance also debuted a new camshaft that answers the Gen III Hemi swap question. “The Gen-III Hemi engine swaps are now becoming almost as popular as an LS swap, so we have some help for that. The Stage 1 is a drop-in deal with a phaser kit but no other necessary changes. Meanwhile, the Stage 2 includes springs as well.”
