PRI 2016: Scheid Diesel Innovating Solutions

Scheid Diesel is a name in the game of compression ignition engines for over 30 years. While circle track and drag racing may be the focus at PRI, diesel has a significant presence too. Everybody has to tow their racecars somehow, and why not just race the tow vehicle? In all seriousness, Dan Scheid was kind enough to talk us through their new offerings.

“We’ve just come out with a billet injection pump housing. We’ve been using what would have been considered a factory housing but we’ve had a few issues with those, so we ended up making our own billet pump housing,” he introduced.

“We’ve occasionally busted the factory housings and pulled the studs out. We basically wanted to get a better piece of material to begin with so we CNC milled ours out of aluminum. We’re utilizing ARP studs to hold the barrels down inside the housing.”

It’s no secret that diesel enthusiasts push their equipment as hard as anybody, and breaking parts is just part of the game. Reinforced alternatives like the Scheid billet injector housing are insurance against failures.

The major focus of the booth was Scheid’s billet-blocked, triple-turbocharged Cummins race engine. Scheid gave us the lowdown on some of the details that make this engine a potent combination;

“We’ve got a new billet cylinder head on it, billet injectors, Diamond pistons, billet rods with 1/2-inch bolts, dry sump oiling, a separate turbo oiling system and we run water injection with it – that way we can get the intake air temperature down to about 90 degrees F,” he concluded.”
