PRI 2018: PRW Industries Upgraded Ford Power Stroke Flexplates

“Nobody thinks about their flexplate until it breaks,” says Shawn Miller of PRW Industries. Because they aren’t glamorous parts – or even visible parts for that matter – flexplates are something that are rarely thought about, especially on a diesel truck. However, there is a definite shortcoming inherent to the OEM Ford flexplate, and until now, the only upgrade options were ridiculously expensive billet units.

PRW has fixed that with a middle-ground option for diesel performance enthusiasts. “These are both SFI-approved flexplates for the 7.3-liter and 6.0-liter Power Stroke. They end up being twice as thick as the factory plate, and pricing-wise they come in under $200,” Miller says. “They are made from chromoly steel with a platinum zinc coating, and will handle over 1000 lb-ft of torque with no problem.”

The greatly increased strength comes thanks to the PRW flexplate’s 4mm thickness. “The extra thickness makes them a lot stronger, and works really well for the guys who are drag racing or towing really heavy loads with a tune on it,” explains Miller. “It’s a nice balance between factory and billet for guys who need something better than stock, but aren’t going to push the truck hard enough to need a $700 billet piece.”

Modeled after the factory flexplate, the PRW units are a direct bolt-on, compatible with all of the same parts as OEM – any OE or aftermarket converter designed to work with the stock flexplate will still work with the beefed-up PRW unit, making it an extremely logical – and affordable – upgrade for diesel enthusiasts.

The source of PRW Industries flexplates’ increased strength is its increased thickness. Twice as thick as an OEM flexplate, these are good for up to 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
