In today’s age of computer wizardry, you might think that carburetor innovation is a thing of the past. However, that is incredibly wrong, as carburetors continue to not only hold their own – especially in a competition setting – but companies like FST Performance Carburetors are continuing to evolve the concepts and function of the analog devices.

We stopped by the FST booth to check out its top-of-the-line Billet Excess Pro carburetor, and Jaques Benoit gave us the rundown. “It’s a 4500-pattern carburetor, with four-circuits via a unique set of metering blocks, which all come off the same emulsions,” Benoit explains.

“You’ve got the same emulsions, but you’ve got the high-side emulsions and low side emulsions. When you tune the high side you can set it up for a good strong curve when you’re wide open, while still having separate intermediate and idle circuits.”

Designed for true race applications, FST has incorporated a number of features that are normally not found off-the-shelf. “The Billet Excess Pro is for people who would normally have to go to carb modifiers to get these features. We’re giving you all the same pieces without the need for a modifier,” says Benoit.

As the name suggests, the Billet Excess Pro features a billet main body, with the ability to go up to 2.400-inch throttle bores. The billet metering blocks have six stages of emulsion for increased tuning resolution, and are compatible with gasoline, as well as ethanol and methanol. The Billet Excess Pro is also available with FSTs unique three-port, high-capacity fuel bowls, for truly thirsty performance applications.
