Nothing is more annoying on a car than things that are supposed to be tight that are no longer that way. If a header bolt backs off, the exhaust gasket starts to leak. If it’s not caught quick enough, then it could permanently damage the gasket and will require a new replacement for the repair. So how does one fix this age-old problem?
The 33-year old company Stage 8 Locking Fasteners is known for its locking header bolt kits, but this year they are bringing a new application to market. According to Bruce Bennett, President of Stage 8, “We now offer a kit for every turbo made.” The turbo locking system works like this: you simply tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specification, slide the keyed locking tab on the bolt, and then pop the E-clip into place.
Bruce states, “The secret is never to let the bolt start moving.” That is the genius of this design— it makes impossible for the bolt to back off without first removing the E-clip and the locking tab. The result will be less time spent tightening up bolts that are backing off and exhaust gaskets that can actually be utilized for an extended period.
If you are tired of chasing down loose bolts, exhaust leaks, or any other pain that deals with bolts, be sure and give Stage 8 a call. They offer all kinds of products that will address this common issue and they would love to hear from you.
