Video: Mike Murillo’s ‘Lafawnduh’ Tops 2,200 HP On Chassis Dyno

All winter long, we’ve been watching Mike Murillo’s Facebook posts, as he’s been working to outfit his legendary championship-winning SCT Performance Outlaw 10.5 ’93 LX Mustang with an M1 alcohol fuel system.

There are many reasons for doing this, chief among them the loss of nearly 200 pounds of vehicle weight thanks to being able to ditch the intercooler and its attendant water/ice tank, along with the weight of the water/ice mixture on race day. Another important reason to add alcohol to the mix are the great flames that spout out of the bullhorns under power – we’re kidding, but it sure does look awesome!

The conversion was performed at Murillo Motorsports in San Antonio, Texas, and has just made it to the dyno session for a quick tuneup prior to Mike hitting the track for his first official outings of the year. Murillo’s ride is a serious piece (affectionately christened ‘Lafawnduh’) and has won multiple championships with the NMRA and NMCA, along with the Street Car Super Nationals in 2012.

The car relies on a 542 cubic-inch big-block Ford and is stuffed full of boost by a pair of Precision Turbo 88mm turbochargers to make the power. Murillo also runs Turbosmart’s Progate 50mm wastegates, Raceport blowoff valves, and a pair of FPR3000 fuel pressure regulators. He’s been debating making the switch for a while now, and since he’s decided to refocus his racing efforts this season to include a number of new venues like Don Omar’s Dragmania events, it was time to do the deed.

murillo1It’s rare that we get to see a full-on dyno pull from an Outlaw 10.5 ride like this, so turn up the sound, click on that little HD button at the bottom, and enjoy the big-block Ford sounds of 2,216.4 horsepower and 1,624 foot-pounds of torque at the wheels.

Factor in the typical 32 percent driveline loss through the Turbo400 transmission and heavy tires, and he’s over 2,925 horsepower and pushes nearly 2,150 foot-pounds of torque – and he’s just getting started with the tuning on this beast.

We can only imagine what he’ll do with all that newfound power on the track, seeing as how he was one of the quickest and fastest Outlaw 10.5 cars on the planet before the change.

Thanks to Javi and Murillo Motorsports for the footage!
