The diesel building and tuning scene is known for pushing their equipment harder than the average gearhead, and when you’re talking performance diesel you’re talking boost. With turbochargers being the power adder of choice among compression ignition enthusiasts, suppliers like BD Diesel are here to serve the demands of builders.
This year at PRi we stopped by BD Diesel to see what’s up with the latest in their popular turbo kits for various applications. The big announcement? Upgrading their Borg Warner-based systems to the SXE line with replaceable center sections that mean better spool times and better air flow.
“For the Dodge 6.7-liter Cummins we have gone to a brand new actuator, 67 mm impeller 70 mm on the exhaust side. It will support 690 hp and replaces the stock turbo, you get a lot more airflow so you keep your variable vein exhaust brake and you get a lot more horsepower,” announced Guy Goldstein of BD Diesel.
“We’re upgrading our Super Bee specials to the SXE, for example our Super Bee 64 we are going to a 63 mm SXE because it flows more, what’s nice about that is they come with an external wastegate because they’re not usually wastegated.”
But BD certainly doesn’t limit themselves to any one marque of engine, for Ford Powerstroke fans, they have updated the offerings to support the 6.7. “We have our 6.7 Scorpion kit and we also have our dual fueler for it. We’re also upgrading to the SXE turbos on it,” Goldstien concluded.
There’s plenty more from BD here at the show so look for more from them in the new year.
