Three days of walking around the 2014 edition of the PRI show found us in the enviable position of trying to select our 50 favorite engines for this year’s pictorial – we found all sorts of interesting bullets, from stock-appearing crate engines stuffed into sprint cars all the way up to 1,000-cubic-inch naturally aspirated monsters. Four-cylinders, sixes, V8s, sucking in copious amounts of nitrous oxide or the compressed air from superchargers of all types. Turbochargers – sometimes multiples – and every type of air induction you can imagine.
During our travels around the show, we tried to capture a wide variety of these for your viewing pleasure. While we didn’t catch every engine that was on the property, we did notice that there were an abundance of big-blocks in many of the booths. There were also a wide array of crate-style engines from a variety of manufacturers. We also found many new engine parts, from engine blocks to cylinder heads for everything from the Ford FE platform to the LS engine and just about everything in between. We even found a brand-new Ford Cleveland engine block billed as having the capability to house the largest small-block Ford on the planet bar none. As always, PRI was full of jewelry for enthusiasts of all types, and if you can figure out how to get in, you won’t regret it.

This last one holds much potential – Tom Bailey plans to make it the quickest and fastest ‘street-legal’ engine in the world when he and engine builder Steve Morris debut it in 2015. They are shooting for 5.50’s in the quarter-mile, while driving it to and from the track in the torture test known as Hot Rod Drag Week
