Back in November, Ford stormed the 2012 SEMA Show with a whole lot of turbocharged awesomesauce. We’re talking about the twin-turbo 5.0 V8-powered Mustang Cobra Jet, as well as a trio of new crate engines that includes two EcoBoost motors. Ford hasn’t let on how much these motors will cost, though we recently checked the Ford Racing Performance Parts page, and were surprised at what we found.

Specifically, it looks as though the 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine kit will have a MSRP of around $8,000. Ford has not made an official announcement yet on pricing, so this number could change…but it might not.

Neither the 2.0 liter nor the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engines are listed on the main page on the Ford Racing webpage. But we decided on a whim to enter the 2.0 liter EcoBoost’s part number into the search bar. Lo-and-behold, it took us to this page, laying out all the important specs that includes 252 horsepower, 270 ft-lbs of torque, as well as the content of the engine kit.

Not only do you get the engine, but you also get the starter, alternator, the front accessory drive and belt, the air cleaner assembly, and a flexplate or flywheel. However, the 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine will need an aftermarket engine control system and programming to function properly, which is kind of a letdown. We can only assume that Ford is working on remedying that problem. We did not find the prices for either the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine avaailable yet.

At $8,000, this engine isn’t cheap, but it is largely complete save for the controller and tune. Is it worth the $8,000 asking price? Do you have any particular projects in mind for the 2.0 EcoBoost?
