Crank Balancing Weight Options From Callies

Gaining peak engine horsepower optimization is a pretty big basket to try and fill, so using every option on the table is the best route to follow. Making sure a crankshaft is balanced to effectively handle the targeted amount of power in mind is one way to generate extra horsepower and keep an engine healthy under a heavy load. Callies offers its own line of crank balancing supplies that will work on a variety of different crankshaft styles for Chevrolet, Mopar, and Ford cranks.

The basic idea of balancing a crankshaft with counterweights is to account for the rod and piston weight that are attached to the crank. During the rotating assembly’s movements inside the block, the goal is to have the total of all the forces to be equal to zero. This can be accomplished by adding the proper amount of counterweights to the crank and making it internally balanced.

In Callies’ series counterweights are weights made from machined tungsten that have been center-less ground and precisely tuned to length. This process gives their weights a high level of dimensional consistency that makes the crankshaft balancing process much easier. Since not all crankshafts are the same, Callies has made a wide range of weight lengths available. These are all designed to work with different counterweight size requirements for Chevy, Mopar, and Ford crankshafts. The diameters Callies now offers are available from 0.500-inches up to 1.3770-inches.

If you’re ready to start another engine build make sure you check out the Callies website to get a set of their counterweights for your crankshaft.
