Will Au-Yeung of PZ Tuning out of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada powered his 660 wheel horsepower 9th gen Honda Civic to a Global Time Attack Unlimited FWD class win at Road Atlanta in 2015 with a time of 1:30.223; giving him the second fastest FWD lap time at Road Atlanta. Will then continued on to GingerMan Raceway in Michigan for the GridLife Midwest Track Battle and won the Unlimited FWD class and set a new FWD lap record at GingerMan.
Using the open deck K24A2 out of the Acura TSX, and ductile iron L.A. Sleeves as a starting point was a great choice to help keep cylinder temps down on a car that will see lots of boost and circuit racing. Internally, Will used King Engine Bearings, Carrillo connecting rods and CP (Carrillo) pistons to handle all of the power this boosted K24 will be making.
To compress the air being pulled into the Skunk2 Ultra intake manifold, the same turbo as last year is being used, an internal wastegate BorgWarner EFR 9174 with 0.92 a/r. This year the boost will be turned up; and to keep things reliable while pulling as much power out of the K24 as possible, Will made the switch to E85 as his fuel of choice. With E85, more boost and ignition timing advance can be achieved due to the cooler and more dense charge created.
Will contracted Sasha Anis of OnPoint Dyno to tune his monster Civic. Once the front hubs were bolted to the Dynapack, Sasha began the tune. On the first pull the Civic made 705 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 510 lb-ft at 7,100 RPM with about 20 PSI peak and a very conservative boost curve. With the target boost increased to 21 PSI and the wastegate adjusted more aggressively, Sasha began the second pull. This time the Civic only made it to around 6,500 RPM before destroying 4th gear from the insane amount of torque the K24 was creating, ending the day early.
With a transmission rebuild now on his hands, Will decided to leave the car at 705 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. If time permits, he will be back at OnPoint sometime this season to try and reach that 800 horsepower goal. We will be watching Will closely to see what records he breaks this season.
