Video: 800 Horsepower Carbureted LS7 On The Dyno

GM’s LS platform series can be found in just about every form of auto racing. It has been the go-to engine choice for many drag racing and street builds for several decades now and due to the compact design, great reliability and the vast aftermarket support, LS engines have even made their way into road race and drifting import builds in the form of engine swaps.

Horsepower Monster recently posted a video to their YouTube channel of a circle track engine on the dyno. Built by RF Engines and Development; it is a carbureted LS7 Super Dirt Late Model build with a goal of 750+ horsepower. Using a Racing Head Service LS aluminum race block as the starting point, internally a Lunati forged crank, Lunati I-beam connecting rods and Mahle forged and coated pistons were used.

To top off the RHS block, RHS Pro Elite CNC LS7 heads were used with Xceldyne valves, COMP Elite solid roller lifters, COMP solid roller cam, Jesel custom rockers and Ultra Pro Machining billet valve covers to cover it all up.

Uncommon to LS engines, this one is carbureted; which made intake choices at the time of the build extremely limited. RF Engines’ only option was a GM single-plane intake that they sent out to be ported to improve flow as much as possible. Knowing tons of air and fuel would be needed to reach their 750+ horsepower goal, they chose to go with a deep breathing BLP Racing 900 CFM double pumper carburetor.

After all was said and done this carbureted LS7 ended up putting down 800.8 horsepower at 7,200 RPM and 633.5 lb-ft at about 5,300 RPM for a very unique and respectable Super Dirt Late Model class engine.
