Lock the dog outside, turn up the volume and enjoy the sonic pleasures of a naturally aspirated V10 built with precision, grace and flair.
Audi just released this video showing a new R8 on an all-wheel-drive chassis dyno. In a flash of genius, the rear bodywork was removed to show off the powertrain. And to truly celebrate the Lamborghini-sourced engine, the driver went through the gears on the downside, as well, spitting out shots of blue flame with each downshift, ala Formula 1.
The video lasts a shade past a minute. Ideally, one would loop it over and and over while leaning back, closing eyes and dreaming of unbridled bursts down the Autobahn, giving the 5.2-liter V10 the freedom to demonstrate its 542 horsepowewer and nearly 400 lb-ft torque. Zero-to-60 time is around 3.5 seconds and top speed is 197 mph. But as this video proves, the V10 engine just sounds fast, even when the car is stationary.
