Here’s additional evidence that internal-combustion engines can be art.
This is a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine prepped to power an exotic, limited edition yacht designed by Claydon Reeves. Only 12 of these sleek beauties will be manufactured, each with an authentic Merlin engine that has “documented provenance.” Now, we’re not sure that means there will be proof that the engine saw action in WWII as part of a P51 or a Hawker Hurricane, but it must add value somewhere.
The company says the 27-liter Merlin engines will feature electronic fuel injection and be detuned down to around 1,110 horsepower. The Kevlar/carbon-fiber constructed yacht will still be capable of exceeding 100 mph across the water.
The first boat hasn’t been built yet. According to the company, a scale model will be displayed alongside the engine at the “Salute to Style” event next month at London’s Hurlingham Club.
