The new Brodix DS225 cylinder head is the type of affordable bolt-on upgrade for small-block Chevys that meets the performance needs of most street enthusiasts and weekend warriors.
“This is an out-of-the-box, 23-degree head,” says Jeff Brotherton. “It comes with CNC-ported chambers and ‘as cast’ 225cc intake ports. It’s one step away from our Track 1 head. It’s very affordable.”

The DS225, which stands for Dragon Slayer, features 2.080-inch intake and 1.600-inch exhaust valves. It will flow more than 300cfm at .600-inch lift and is compatible with standard rocker arms and other head components. It also comes with a full-face exhaust and is available in either 68cc or 64cc combustion chamber. Fully assembled models with different valve-spring seat pressures can be ordered.
The DS225 matches up nicely with the new Brodix BM1000 single-plane intake manifold. This manifold also works with Brodix -8, -10, -11, -11x and Track 1 heads. It supports carburetors with a 4150 footprint and is designed for drag racing and oval-track racers who run in the 4,000 to 8,000 rpm range. There are provisions for nitrous jets and water lines.
Also new for Brodix is the fully CNC-machined SR 20 Chevy big-block 20-degree head
“This is for racers with class rules where they can’t run 12- or 18-degree head,” explains Brotherton. “It’s a newer casting. It’s lighter and has more contours.”
Standard features include a 440cc intake port raised .500 inch and 2.400-inch intake valve. It’s rated to flow 507 cfm. The exhaust port flows 335 cfm behind a 1.800-inch valve. Combustion chamber is 95cc.
“This head requires 20-degree pistons and valve covers, studs, shaft rockers and intake manifold designed specifically for it,” stresses Brotherton.
The SR 20 head is also available fully assembled.
