20150305_075722_1024x1024The machinist and the performance engine builder share many tools of the trade. With precision craftsmanship being a cornerstone of both disciplines it’s no shock that having the right tools for the job is a necessity. Few and far between are the shops still playing Etch A Sketch with a manual Bridgeport to do intricate machining jobs.

With the explosion of accessibility in computer numeric controlled (CNC) machining centers has come a market flooded with deals and bargains. As all the front runners try to keep up with the Joneses, their surplus machinery goes to market for pennies on the dollar. This boom of technology provides those of us with a passion, hobby or business more opportunity to leverage the power of high tech tooling.3893720f-f7c2-4e25-8f9f-c4e643f3f8ff

Machining Operations

Some of the engine building operations this Rottler can perform for the emerging LS machinist include:

  • Block Surfacing
  • Blue Print Boring
  • Boring and Sleeving
  • Circular Interpolation
  • Connection Rod Boring
  • Cylinder Head Resurfacing
  • Lifter Boring
  • Line Boring
  • Multi Purpose CNC (Custom Parts)
  • Thrust Cutting

Today we look at this Rottler F-65 CNC milling center. Current guardians Mast Motorsports report “Our beloved Rottler F-65 has been replaced by our new HAAS VF4 and we are looking to move it.” Rottler has been around since 1923 and specializes in machine and tool for engine building. Mast Motorsports specializes in everything LS-swap. Complete engines, and their own line of heads and intake manifolds, we can be sure this machine has seen some parts to completion.

Any craftsman will tell you they grow an attachment to their tools, despite their cold mechanical nature, and heavy machinery can certainly bewitch with the best. This example comes with a selection of basic tooling; we can identify a dozen spindles, a number of end mills, and a couple of boring bars. Perhaps most importantly this mill comes with an LS block fixture.

The asking price for this piece of multipurpose machinery is $45,000 and Mast Motorsports can supply more details, give them a call or drop them a line.
