As you likely know, we are fans of making naturally aspirated power. Well, the folks over at Brian Tooley Racing are too, and have developed a number of top-end kits they are dubbing “SBE Power Packages.” Designed to bolt on to stock short-blocks (hence the “SBE” in the name) these packages range from a mild 460 horsepower to a big-boy 550 horsepower, all from a 5.3-liter truck short-block.

Based around the infamous BTR Truck Norris camshaft, the introductory SBE Power Package is aimed at power, sound, and street manners. Rated at 460 horsepower, it comes with a pair of BTR’s new CNC-ported canted valve cathedral-port cylinder heads, that manage to stuff an OEM LT1 2.125-inch intake valve into a small truck bore. The heads come assembled with BTR’s platinum valve spring kit and are ready to bolt on.

The key to all of the 5.3-liter power packages are BTR’s canted valve cylinder heads, which allow the small bore short-blocks to breathe through a much larger intake and exhaust valve than normal.

The 460-horsepower kit comes with a TBSS intake manifold, fuel rail kit, Truck Norris camshaft, a set of BTR LS7 lifters and trays, properly sized intake and exhaust pushrods, as well as new head and header gaskets, for an all-in one kit.

Bumping up to the 550-horsepower top-of-the-line power package kit, the kit includes the same canted valve cathedral-port CNC cylinder heads, but swaps the TBSS intake manifold for a BTR Trinity intake manifold and a fuel rail kit specific to the Trinity.  It also swaps the Truck Norris camshaft for BTR’s LS1/LS2 Stage 4 V2 camshaft with .636 inch of lift and 233/24X degrees of duration at .050. This unlocks high-RPM airflow and really lets the top end breathe.

If you want something in between a mild upgrade and a rowdy N/A 5.3, there are three other package power levels available for 470, 520, and 530 horsepower levels, along with two packages for a 6.0-liter truck short-block, if that’s how you roll.
