If there’s a single takeaway EngineLabs observed while roaming PRI, it’s that orange-checkered valve covers look cool, especially on a blown engine with marine headers (below).
Yes, it’s time for our showcase of the 50 hottest engines at the show. Unlike the previous SEMA review that focused mostly on street vehicles, PRI is all about speed and racing. That means anything with wheels, or sponsons, will qualify. Look closely and you’ll find hopped up engines from all types of motorized disciplines: diesel, motorcycle, truck pulling, formula outboard, drag racing, karts, road racing, oval, exotic and even a couple vintage offerings.
With race engines, it’s all about simplicity and efficiency — even with the gargantuan turbo setups and demand air ducts the size of sewer pipes. There’s a mechanical symmetry that radiates order, proficiency and a no-nonsense approach to acceleration and speed.
So pick out your favorites and discuss back on the EngineLabs Facebook page. Enjoy!
