An upgraded Ford EcoBoost 1.0-liter engine will pump out 138 horsepower (140 PS) when it arrives in the new Europe-only Fiesta Zetec S Red and Black editions.
Ford says it’s the most powerful 1.0-liter engine available in any production car and provides more power per liter than a Bugatti Veyron or Ferrari 458 Speciale.
Modifications to the engine include recalibration of the ECU to change settings for the turbo boost, valve timing, intercooler and throttle management. The 12-percent jump in power over the previous EcoBoost will give the Fiesta an expected 0-100km/h acceleration time of nine seconds and a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).
Ford also offers 100- and 125-horsepower versions of the 1.0-liter EcoBoost. The engine boasts features such as turbocharging, twin independent variable valve timing and high-pressure direct-injection. In the US, the EcoBoost-powered Fiesta is rated at 123 horsepower with 125 lb-ft peak torque. No word if the upgraded engine tune will be available in the US.
