Our friends over at Cloyes Gear have been building timing sets for decades; they developed and debuted their very first True Roller timing set in 1970 through the vision of engineer Bob Bub and the rest of the engineering team. The True Roller offered balanced sprockets, multi keyways for timing adjustment, and a new chain design with solid bushing-type rollers and was designed specifically for racing.
Since then, the company has developed the Hex-A-Just True Roller among other designs tailored to the racing market. In addition, they offer a wide range of timing sets for original equipment applications and are a Tier 1 supplier to the OE market.
So you’re building a new engine, or re-assembling a rebuild, and the cat ate your timing set’s instruction manual. Or maybe you used the back of the paper as a scratch pad during the initial install to write down the measurements for your main and rod bearing clearances.
Never fear–the fix is here, in the form of complete instruction manuals for the company’s products. From the small- and big-block Chevy Gear Drive systems to the Hex-A-Just for the Ford FE platform, the Cloyes gang has set up the full, in color (black and white, really) installation instructions for each one of their systems. Even the Ford Modular SOHC engine is represented, and there are also general setup tips for the Quick Adjust and Quick button kits.
It’s nice to know they’ve got our backs. Because who hasn’t misplaced the instructions for a critical piece of equipment before? And no piece of equipment–especially in today’s close-tolerance race engines–is potentially more important than the timing set.
