For engine enthusiasts, there’s no more fertile showcase for exciting hardware than a drag boat race. These guys know how to build horsepower and do it with style. That’s because the engine is fully exposed in the back end of those flatbottoms and hydros. There’s no hiding under the hood, and certainly no phony plastic engine covers — like the kind you’re seeing more often at the car shows. Drag boat racers flaunt their engines with plenty of chrome and precise detailing.
The crew over dragboatracing.com offers a great engine gallery titled “Awesome Engines” on their Facebook page. Almost 300 engines are posted, and the album continues to grow. You’ll find all types of engines and different makes. We saw injected, carbureted, blown, nitrous-fed and turbocharged. Most are V8s, but there were a couple of outboards and exotics.
We’ve pulled only a small sample of the kick-ass engines posted in the gallery. There are even some of vintage engine shots that caught our eye. And if you don’t mind sorting through pics of beautiful women in swimsuits, there are even more shots of cool boats and their engines in another album (see examples below) titled “Men Only.” So head over to the dragboatracing.com FB page and be amazed!
