The upcoming L8T vs Godzilla battle officially opens the Horsepower Wars Season 5 with a massive roar. Brand loyalties run deep when big-cube, cast-iron V8 engines square off on the dyno. Ford and Chevy fans have been screaming for this heavyweight matchup, and who are we to disappoint?

If you aren’t familiar, the Chevy L8T and Ford Godzilla are the gas engines for the half-ton trucks. And recently, both have been making headlines as robust platforms to build. Our L8T vs Godzilla matchup follows the familiar formula from LS vs Coyote, except with a vastly different displacement dynamic. For the first time, Ford has a significant advantage. The 6.6-liter Chevrolet powerhouse is going to have to punch up to reach the massive 7.3-liter Ford giant. And this go-round, there will be no power adder to potentially level the playing field. That’s right, we are going au naturel.

Just like LS vs Coyote, you’ll be able to follow the builds of both engines in-depth and then see them square off on the same dyno. Renowned engine builders Katech Performance and all-motor masters Booze Brothers Performance will construct these giant powerplants to see who truly rules the heavy-duty truck platform. The strict rules guarantee quite the matchup. And that’s not even the best part…stay tuned for more details on these builds, the rules, and more!

Horsepower Wars Season 5

Fox V Ferrari

While the big engines scream in late Summer to early Fall, the high-speed action continues into the Fall with the Fox v Ferrari challenge. A 1991 Ford Mustang will attempt to take down European exotics on a strict budget, in the ultimate built versus bought competition. This underdog story features roll racing, tight slalom testing, and intense speed-stop challenges – as well as the important “date night” challenge. Can you build your own street car to compete with some of the finest street cars ever engineered? We’ll feature the build of this stock Fox from the ground up as well as the competition itself. (Not to mention a full engine build, we’ll cover as well.)

Following the street car battle, the legendary $10,000 Drag Shootout returns to the track in January, presented by Summit Racing. Competing teams will bring their own bare chassis and build small-tire, nitrous-breathing monsters to conquer the eighth-mile. They’ll have to build an engine and assemble the car within a short amount of time before they head to the dyno and the track. The tight budget constraints force racing crews to get highly creative with every single dollar they spend. Applications for teams of four will be accepted starting later this month (stay tuned to Dragzine.com) and filming starts in the Fall. The series should debut next January.

Grassroots builders constantly prove that expensive hardware does not automatically guarantee a win. Who will create the right combination to become the winner of Horsepower Wars Season 5? Stay tuned to the Horsepower Wars YouTube channel and all your favorite magazines for editorial coverage.
