2020 Product Showcase: King Bearings New Alpha Line Of Race Bearings

King Engine Bearings, a longtime leader in racing engine bearings, recently teamed up with AMS performance to create the new Alpha line of bearings. If you’re at all familiar with AMS, you’re familiar with what the “Alpha” name represents. If not, it is the pinnacle of performance, and the name carried by AMS’ in-house line of top-end performance products.

The Alpha line is a series of max-performance polymer-coated main and rod bearings designed for all-out performance applications. The rod bearings are narrowed to accommodate larger fillet radii of aftermarket performance crankshafts, while maintaining the required load capacity.

In addition, there are new geometric features incorporated into the oil hole and slot on the main bearings. Known as Elliptix, the design improves oil flow without affecting the bearing’s surface at all, resulting in no change in the load capacity.

“We have been working with AMS Performance for many years now, constantly improving our products,” says Meytal Snir-Gal, King’s Vice President of Marketing. “We created narrowed, doweled, and coated versions of the bearing for GT-R applications, all based on AMS’ technical and on-track knowledge. This cooperation is a natural continuation of the fruitful work we have been engaged in for years. Unveiling the King Alpha line in such a challenging time is really empowering as to our stance on the future of our industry.”

Currently, the Alpha series has only been released for Nissan GT-R’s VR38DETT (in doweled and non-doweled versions of the rod bearings), the Nissan VQ35HR / VQ37HR / VR30DETT family found in the 370Z, Infiniti Q50 and Q60, as well as Audi R8 and Lamborghini Hurican applications, as those are all platforms in which AMS specializes in.
