Cometic Releases New MLX Gasket Applications For Hot Engines

There’s no denying that MLS gaskets are the industry’s top choice for high-performance engine builds. Cometic Gaskets helped lead that revolution and continues to push the envelope. Not only by constantly developing new applications, but evolving the design of Multi-Layer Steel gaskets.

In this video, called “At Home with Cometic” which is the first in an ongoing series produced by Cometic employees working from home, Automotive Product Line Manager Jeff Evers talks about the company’s latest application releases across two different product lines.

The first new products are in the Multi-Layer Xtreme (or MLX) line of head gaskets. The MLX design includes an extra layer in the gasket and high-temperature polymers and embossments to seal the water passages. “That [extra layer] allows for better combustion sealing, and lower bore distortion, as well,” Evers says.

Available in 35 different thicknesses, ranging from .028 inch to .142 inch, the MLX head gaskets are now available for the Gen-3 (2018-and-up) 5.0-liter Coyote engine with a 94.5mm bore. Additionally, an MLX gasket is now available the Mark V Toyota Supra B58B30 engine with an 83mm bore.

Then, in the standard MLS line, which has 65 available thicknesses ranging from .018 inch to .140 inch. “Standard” is a bit of a misnomer, as the Cometic MLS line is an extremely capable severe-duty head gasket. The new application is for the Nissan VQ30DE and VQ35DE engine — which have a combined total of 14 years on Wards 10 Best Engines list.

While they might be stuck at home, the team at Cometic Gaskets is still hard at work developing products and providing the service its customers have come to expect.
