PRI 2019: Cometic Gaskets Adds A Resilience to MLS Head Gaskets

Cometic Gaskets has been a major player in the evolution of cylinder head gasket technology for the past 30 years and currently offers three performance levels of gaskets. The Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) line is comprised of multiple layers of coated and uncoated stainless steel layers.

The Multi-Layer Xtreme (MLX) line  integrates a “stopper” layer for combustion chamber sealing and improved clamp load. And for the high-performance street enthusiasts, Cometic’s Street-Pro line is geared toward Street Rodders looking for a head gasket with great sealing ability for moderate horsepower engines.

These three levels of head gaskets have served the automotive enthusiasts very well. Now the community has another option as Cometic has reveals its latest technology discovery. The new line has been designated the Spring Energized (SEG) MLS head gasket line.

Company Spokesman Jason Moses explained how the  SEG works. “Using a circular seal, constructed from Inconel with silver electro-plating, the resilient nature of the seal ensures useful elastic recovery during service,” he said.

“This recovery aids in the seal’s ability to accommodate small distortions in the clamped joint. As pressure increases in the joint, so does the power of the seal, making it conducive for the elevated temperature and cylinder pressures. This is the type of environment seen in extremely high-horsepower and forced-induction applications.”
