SEMA 2012: Turbonetics Keeps Improving their GT-K Turbos

In the performance aftermarket, if you stand still, you get left behind. One company that’s continually improving their products to stay on the top of their game is Turbonetics. We caught up with them at this year’s SEMA show and got a look at what’s new in their premiere GT-K line of turbochargers.

The characteristic Map Enhancement Porting around the GT-K's compressor inlet broadens the efficiency of the turbocharger and improves stall characteristics

The GT-K incorporates pretty much every technology the company has developed over the more than thirty years they’ve been supplying industrial and automotive turbochargers, but there are continuous improvements being made. This year, improved compressor aerodynamics and billet aluminum and titanium compressor wheels increase the already outstanding efficiency of the GT-K line.

Titanium (left) joins billet aluminum in the GT-K compressor wheel lineup.

Available in a wide range of sizes for applications ranging from motorcycles to Pro Mod drag racing, and all points in between, Turbonetics GT-K turbochargers all share some outstanding features:

  • Brushed satin finish on the compressor housing, black ceramic coated turbine housing
  • Patented ceramic ball bearing center housing rotating assembly that offers 50 times more thrust capacity than a journal bearing, and resists damage from high-temperature shut-down
  • Map Enhancement Porting to allow the compressor wheel to operate at its maximum efficiency across a very broad RPM range
  • Ultra-fast transient response and quick spooling
