The guys at Callies Precision Engine Components have been one of the go-to crankshaft and rod manufacturers for small- and big-block along with LS Chevrolet applications, and now, due to demand, they are venturing into the Ford arena with a new billet Cleveland-style crankshaft and a sweet Modular I-beam connecting rod.
The Ultra Billet crankshaft immediately caught our attention; it’s designed for use in Cleveland/SVO-style blocks like the Dart Iron Eagle and others which use the 2.749-inch main dimension.
Callies’ Brook Piper explains,”Available connecting rod journals for this crankshaft range from a 1.888-inch Honda-sized journal to a 2.100-inch journal, and the stroke range availability runs from 2.900-inch to 4.750-inch. It’s center counterweighted and machined from 4330V steel.”
The Ultra Billet is also available for 302 applications. All small block Ford Ultra Billet crankshafts come with Callies’ Ultra-Shed counterweight profiling and super finishing, which assists greatly in helping to control windage in the crankcase. All of the SBF cranks are produced from Timken 4330VM alloy steel.
The new connecting rod is the company’s first venture into the Ford modular marketplace. “We’re expanding our horizons for our product line,” says Callies’ Justin Whitman.
“This is our traditional Ultra connecting rod with an L19 bolt, and we can also offer a Custom Age 625 bolt or an MP35 bolt upgrade on these. Each rod bolt upgrade offers more longevity and durability depending on the application.”
The Ultra connecting rod uses forged Timken steel that’s formulated to the specifications of the Callies engineers; it’s formed in Trenton, Michigan, and completely manufactured in Callies’ Ohio facility.
The company has also moved into the GTR marketplace in 2014 with a connecting rod, and is considering a new billet crankshaft for the GTR to enter that arena.
Whitman also mentioned the possibility of a new connecting rod forging to enter the EcoBoost Ford market.
