SEMA 2018: ProCharger Is Attacking Both The Street And Racing Market

Procharger, a longtime leader in the centrifugal supercharging market, is still innovating on a number of fronts. First, and potentially foremost, is supercharger R&D itself. “We have released several new supercharger models. We have the P-1X and D-1X,” says ProCharger’s CEO, Ken Jones, of the company’s latest street-oriented superchargers. “We also have the new F-3X-143 which supports over 3,500 horsepower and is mainly being run in the ProMod market.”

In addition to the new blowers, the team at ProCharger is focusing on applications and mounting solutions as well. “We’ve got a new crank-driven gear-drive system which won the Best New Race Product award at the new products breakfast,” Jones says. On the street side, they have their 2018 Mustang GT kit on display, which utilizes the new P-1X supercharger. “The 2018 Mustang kit has been a very successful platform for us. [The 2018 and 2019 Mustang kits] are very similar, and that will roll into the 2019 Mustang as well.”

ProCharger’s 2018 and 2019 Mustang GT kits feature the new P-1X supercharger head unit. The latest evolution of the P-series, the P-1X offers increased efficiency and is a key factor in the kit’s bid for emissions compliance certification.

Also of note is that with ProCharger’s expansion to the west coast, with satellite offices in California, the company has been focusing on the emissions compliance of their kits, working hard to gain 50-state emissions legality. “E.O.’s are huge and we have been getting tons of E.O. certifications,” says Jones. “The emissions testing process gets tougher every year, but our technology is extremely engine friendly. By providing cooler charge temperatures and reducing parasitic losses, that all translates to better emissions results.” As of show time, Mustang kits through 2017 are certified, while 2018 and 2019 Mustang kits are awaiting 50-state emissions approval.

The big-boy blower being shown off here at SEMA is the F-3X-143 centrifugal superrcharger, mounted to ProCharger’s new gear-drive unit. The F-3X-143 supercharger is capable of making 3,500 horsepower, and the gear-drive won “Best New Race Product.”
