While the “most powerful open performance” boat ever produced by the Cigarette Racing Team was inspired by the slick Mercedes-AMG GT3 racecar, the 41-foot, 20,000-pound watercraft is powered by a pair of 1,100-horsepower twin-turbo V8s built on the 9-liter, 4-valve platform that EngineLabs profiled a few years ago.
Set to be displayed together at the Miami International Boat Show, the boat and car share styling cues and matte colors. The boat features a complete teak wood floor and marine-grade leather throughout the interior–a first for Cigarette.
“Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing are known for iconic products,” says Gorden Wagener, head of design at Daimler AG. “Designing the 41-foot SD GT3, we used some unexpected design elements from our Mercedes-AMG GT3 to create another racing icon, the most powerful ‘open performance’ boat ever produced by the Cigarette Racing Team.”
Our readers are more interested in the power, and that comes from a two 1100 engines from Mercury Racing that are rated at 1,100 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and capable of 1,100 lb-ft torque from 2,500 to 5,250 rpm while running 89-octane fuel.
These engines are based on the same QC4V platform upon which the 1,650-horsepower crate engine that Mercury Racing is offering the automotive market. The twin-turbo weighs over 900 pounds fully dressed but can still fit into a car chassis. Check out the link to learn more about this unique engine. And speaking of Mercury Racing, we’re still awaiting the release of the shop’s 32-valve cylinder head for LS engines.
