The Oilers Car Club is building a twin-engine Model T that is heavily influenced by the legendary Ford 999 racer from 1902. The team is linking a pair of Model T 4-cylinder engines in a straight north-south configuration, offsetting the firing by 90 degrees. Each engine will have its own intake manifold and carb but both engines will ignite from the same 8-cylinder distributor.
Sponsored by Craftsman tools, the above video offers only a few glimpses of the project called Made to Race as the team builds and mounts the engines. However, there’s a blog that adds photos and offers updates on the project.
We do know that Model T stroker crankshafts, hogged out heads with bigger valves and a hotter cam will be used. One can assume that attention to blueprint specs and bumping the compression will be implemented to pull an estimated 100 horsepower number from the united engines.
The car will be showcased at The Race of Gentlemen, a gathering of vintage race vehicles built before 1935 on the beach near Wildwood, New Jersey. Land speed record holder Jessi Combs will get the honors behind the wheel.
