Video: A Tour Of Diamond Pistons’ Michigan Manufacturing Facility

[1]

Diamond Pistons [2], originally founded in 1968, has long stood as one of the leaders in high performance racing pistons, from NASCAR and Pro Stock racing on down to the weekend warrior and street crowd. Through their relationships with elite-level racing teams, like NHRA champion Greg Anderson, the company has been able to develop stronger, better products which withstand the power of record-setting machines. Even with these relationships, Diamond Pistons strongly believes in giving everyone, from Richard Petty to a regular Saturday night racer, the same amount of product support.

With over 60 people on staff and over 30 state of the art CNC machining centers, with six 7-axis Okuma multi-turning centers, Diamond Pistons has a large supply of shelf stock and catalog parts that fit most popular arrangements, and they do it all in-house. They also have the ability to do a custom base with the changes needed to fit whatever application is needed. These machines provide them with the ability to manufacture a piston without ever placing human hands on it, other than the process of loading and unloading the part.

In all, Diamond Pistons’ 20,000-square foot facility produces over 6,000 different SKUs.

Diamond is already looking ahead to the products it will launch and build in its Michigan facilty in the coming months; Mike Panetta, Diamond’s Sales and Product Manager, shares that at SEMA 2017, Diamond will be releasing two new shelf stock series; the first being their LSX Race Series piston line. This line will have the highest horsepower rating in the industry for a shelf stock piston, at 1,700 horses. The kits will include a heavy wall Trend Performance H-13 tool steel wrist pin, and a Total Seal AP Steel ring set.

Also being released at SEMA is their Marine Replacement Series. This series will have a piston offering for most of the popular Mercury Marine sterndrive engines available on the market. This series is offered with a premium 4130 or H13 wrist pin. It will also contain a Diamond Pistons designed harden ductile high tension ring set.
