[1]One of only three RoushYates [2] cutaway NASCAR engines will be up for bid at Barrett-Jackson [3] Scottsdale auction, which gets underway January 13. The engine will go on the block Jan. 20.
[4]Listed as Lot # 1553, the display engine features a small electric motor to turn the crank and demonstrate various features of the engine. In addition, the intake manifold and valve covers have been signed by leading stock-car Hall of Fame inductees like Junior Johnson, Dale Inman, Glen and Leonard Wood, Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace and Bobby Allison.
RoushYates previously donated the D3 engine to the NASCAR Hall of Fame [5] for its opening in 2010. The museum is now selling the engine to help benefit Tree of Life [6], a relief agency based in Mission, South Dakota. It provides a food pantry, clothing distribution and other services for Native Americans in the Dakotas. Proceeds from the sale will also be used by the Friends of NASCAR Hall of Fame to provide educational field trips to underprivileged.
Sections of the engine are cut away to expose pistons, valves and other functioning parts.
“This is a great educational piece that any true gear head would love to own,” says Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “We are so happy to be able to help benefit the Tree of Life and the Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame foundation.”
The engine was removed from the Hall of Fame in May to be replaced by the newly implemented RoushYates Ford FR9 electronic fuel injected Sprint Cup Series engine.
