MyClassicGarage Inviting Votes To Pick Engine For Mustang Project

In the spirit of open collaboration and participation, MyClassicGarage is giving its followers a chance to help build a classic car that will be used for a sweepstakes giveaway. The car and styling have been chosen, now it’s time to pick an engine.

“MyClassicGarage wanted to do something different and give our users the chance to live out their dream of restoring a classic,” says a MyClassicGarage official. “The solution was to let the gearheads vote on the giveaway car, how it looks, how it performs — and then be able to follow the build online.”

The first step was picking the car. More than 25,000 votes were cast and the race narrowed down to a ’69 Camaro or a ’67 Mustang fastback. The Ford won.

“Once the Mustang won, the giveaway/build was branded #ProjectFastBack with a hint for the restoration to bring “back” the power and speed of an iconic car,” says the official.

Visitors to MyClassicGarage also wanted to upgrade the styling features to lower weight and improve downforce on the car. They were asked to vote between different body design options, including Classic Cool (original lines), Nod to Mod (borrow late-model styling cues) or the Track Attack with emphasis on performance. (Note, the Mustang shown above is just a sample of a ’67 project and not reflective of eventual design — but the engines are accurate!) You can find out more about the design by following this link.

Phase 3 of the voting is now focusing on engine choice. Voters can pick between three popular Ford crate engines, each with a very different personality. The choices are:

  • 5.0-liter Coyote with 412 horsepower and peak torque of 400 lb-ft.
  • 427ci small-block with 450 horsepower and 520 lb-ft torque
  • 2.0-liter EcoBoost 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft torque

No doubt many will be drawn to the brute force of a 427 based on the Boss 351 block, but the Aluminator crate engine is extremely popular with engine swaps today. And the EcoBoost will offer light weight and fuel-saving possibilities.

So, cast your vote today and keep checking the website. Additional voting will cover exhaust, suspension, color, interior, wheels/tires and more. Those interested in entering the giveaway contest and follow the build can do so by following this link.

Salvaggio Automotive Design will build the car. Also, MyClassicGarage hosts a social network for gearheads called MCG Social where users can post, comment, like and connect with other enthusiasts. MyCarGarage is using this format to create a custom #ProjectFastBack social page for fans to follow the build, including updates, photos and videos as the project progresses.
