IDP And MPD Team Up To Build A 980 Horsepower 6.4 (Fuel Only)

Recently Maryland Performance Diesel (MPD) had a treat when Stewart Ingraham came in and dropped off this 6.4 Power Stroke. According to Greg Furtak from MPD,” Stewart came to us and said… I want 1000hp…”

stew4From a shop standpoint, it is always great when you get a customer dedicated to hitting a huge power level in one step. This lets them tear everything down, build it once and build it with a focus. Many times customers will come in wanting to hit “X” horsepower, but as they get closer to that number, they start wanting more and some of the early parts that are purchased won’t work for the higher number. Or worse, you have a guy that wants a street truck initially and then turns their attention to dedicated competition. That usually means re-doing a ton of stuff.

For MPD, they started by completely tearing the truck apart. They tore the engine down to a bare block and did all of the machining in house. They retained the factory crank, but upgraded to R&R Racing Products billet rods, connected to Mahle pistons that had the lip removed and were fly cut. From there, they opted to use ARP studs to hold down the factory heads.

The air is supplied by a custom MPD compound setup. Once the air is cooled from the intercooler, it is directed into a custom intake manifold built by MPD. The air is met by fuel being supplied from a River City Diesel (RCD) dual fueler kit that is supported by the MPD regulated return low pressure fuel system.

stew5Behind the engine, they ditched the factory 5R110 Torqueshift and installed a 4R100 built by Brian’s Truck Shop (BTS) controlled by a Powertrain Control Solutions (PCS) controller.

So, how did they do? “Stewarts expectations were exceeded, he was all smiles after this build. He just needs to get it fine tuned to be more street friendly, but the power is there,” says Furtak.

The truck headed straight over to Innovative Diesel Performance (IDP) for an extensive dyno session to get the truck fully dialed in. Eric Eldreth is the owner and tuning guru who has tuned multiple 1,000 horsepower Fords in the past, and he proved he certainly lived up to his reputation. Within a fairly short period of time, the truck was laying down 980 horsepower on fuel only!

“We were all impressed when the 980 number popped on the screen, the truck sounds awesome! Definitely glad Stewart opted for the roll cage, we can see 10 second passes out of this truck in the spring,” said Furtak.
