GM has bumped the torque output of its 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder in the 2015 Cadillac ATS line with engine recalibration that allows more boost. The engine is now rated at 295 lb-ft peak torque and 272 horsepower. GM says at 136 horsepower per liter, the 2.0 turbo is “one of the most power-dense engines in the industry.” For comparison, that equates to 2.23 horsepower per cubic inch.
Dyno charts show that that the engine delivers 90 percent of peak torque from 2,100 rpm to 3,000 rpm and the full 295 lb-ft from 3,000 to 4,600 rpm.
When the GM 2.0 turbo was named to Ward’s Automotive list of the 10 Best Engines for 2013, it was rated at 272 horsepower and 260 lb-ft peak torque. Features on the DOHC engine include continuously variable valve timing, direct injection, twin-scroll turbocharger with air-to-air intercooler, forged steel crankshaft and 2-stage variable displacement oil pump with jet-spray piston cooling.
