While the ICON piston brand is branching out into the powersports market, the company is also covering popular muslcecar applications for owners of classic GM, Ford and Mopar vehicles.
“Powersports is a totally new market for us,” says ICON’s Glen Schierholt. “There’s a lot of development time with all new dies.”
The powersports catalog includes listings for motorcycles and quads. Some applications offer different compression ratios. The pistons are forged aluminum and come with a floating wrist pin. Three-ring designs include a steel top ring with gas-nitrided facing. The second ring is iron and the oil ring is nitride-coated stainless steel.
“We also have an extensive line of pistons for early and late-model Harleys,” adds Schierholt.
The FHR series of pistons for classic engines offers a number of features usually found in custom pistons, such as 4032 alloy construction, Tru-arc lock rings, CNC-machined skirts, accumulator grooves and die-formed valve reliefs.
Popular applications include Chevy small-block in a variety of factory and custom displacements, Chevy big-block, Chrysler big-block, Ford Windsor and Pontiac big-block. ICON also has a line of pistons for rarer engines, such as Ford flatheads.
For late-model applications, ICON is expanding is LS engine line to include a variety of bore sizes and dish styles.
